Impact the Cure, the 9th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Race and the 2-mile Walk will be held in downtown Abilene on October 6th.
The event is organized by the Impact Sports & Fitness, 418 N. Broadway, where the race will begin.
Cancer survivors will be recognized as a group and will receive a special "Survivor" gift at 7:45 am
The Impact The Cure 5K is a USATF certified course. The race will begin at 8 o'clock.
Prizes will be awarded to male and female 5K winners, 1st, 5th and 5th finalists in each age group and entry prizes for children 13 and under.
The 2 Mile Fun Walk, which will also begin at 8 am, is a non-competitive event.
There will also be a 100 yard rush for kindergarten and downhill, a Down the Block race for 1st, 2nd and 3rd year and a Round the Block race for 4th, 5th and 6th.
All children's race participants will receive a ribbon. The first three men and women in each category will receive a ribbon.
The funds raised from Impact the Cure are intended to support breast cancer services to include free mammography services for uninsured people in Dickinson County.
A mammogram is a series of x-ray images of breast tissue. It is a valuable screening that can detect breast cancer quickly, before a suspicious mass can be felt. Memorial Hospital uses digital mammography. Mammography Services at Memorial Hospital are accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
Mammography services are provided by the Imaging and Radiology Department at Memorial Hospital, 511 N.E. 10th Street.
