TOKYO (Reuters) – Nissan Motor Co.7201.TThe objective is to appoint a new president a month or two before the next board meeting scheduled for December 20, a source close to the record said after the automaker sacked Thursday Thursday President Carlos Ghosn.
The appointment will be made by the new advisory board of the Japanese manufacturer consisting of the three independent directors of the company.
The new president will occupy this position "at least" until the next shareholders meeting of Nissan. No decision on the holding of a special meeting of shareholders has been taken, added the source. The next regular meeting is scheduled for June 2019.
Another special committee led by independent directors to discuss improved governance on the basis of third-party advice will likely propose a nominating committee to select a permanent chair, said the source, who declined to be identified because of the sensitivity of the problem.
"It's a two-step process," said the source. "We must first choose an acting president as soon as possible."
Nissan was not immediately available to comment on Friday, a holiday in Japan.
Nissan's board voted unanimously to oust Ghosn, who was arrested on Monday on charges of financial misconduct, including under-reporting of his compensation and personal use of the company's assets.
