As the Cubs face the Diamondbacks Tuesday night in Phoenix, their magic number to win the National League title for a third consecutive season has been reduced to nine.
The second-ranked Brewers lost to the Reds 3-1 in Milwaukee and fell three games behind the Cubs – waiting for the result in Arizona. The third-place Cardinals, who have second place in NL's wild card, eliminated the Braves 8-1 and are five on the first – and only two behind the Brewers.
