The victims of Hurricane Florence are in need, and if you want to donate, be sure to give good.

North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein said his office has received five complaints about alleged charity scams.

"There are criminals out there who will take advantage of the generosity of people and pocket the money you want to go to help other people," he said.

Stein suggested donating to a charity you know and trust, and not giving money to anyone who calls or emails you and pushes you to make a donation.

He also warns to be wary of solicitations on social media. "You have no idea if these entities are truly legitimate organizations or not," Stein said.

Before making a donation, do your research.

You can search any other charity on GuideStar.

"Find out if they are putting money to good use or spending too much money on resources or fundraising and administration instead of helping those who need help," he said. said Mr. Stein.

If you plan to donate money, make sure to use your credit card and not cash.
