My fashion and beauty looks are inspired by tons of things: old movies, Instagram tutorials, celebrities, really anything, but I did not expect to be inspired by a gardener. In my defense though, it's not any gardener, it's Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's daughter, North, and the look is really beautiful – and not just for a child of five years, but for everyone. North West wore an orange eyeliner and a ponytail, and I could not help but try it myself.
On September 29, the child fashionista did everything for dad Kanye West Saturday Night Live performance. Nori chose Kim's makeup artist Kim for a bright orange cat eye matching her orange dress. She even asked Chris Appleton, celebrity hairdresser (the man behind Kim Kardashian, Ariana Grande, Jennifer Lopez and Aunt Kylie Jenner's best hairstyles) to create a high ponytail with a braid pierced in the middle. I do not have a Kardashian-approved glam brigade to help me reproduce the adorable look of the Northwest, but I've been training a lot to recreate the braided ponytail look of Ariana Grande. and I wear a cat's eye every day. but I'm up for a bright poppy colored wing.
To recreate Nori's ponytail, I created two central parts and grabbed a section at the center. After spreading the rest of my hair, I started to braid the center from the front of the hairline to the crown of the head. Then I secured the braid with a tiny rubber band and pulled the rest of my hair into a high ponytail. As in the Northwest, I have a ton of baby hair. So I used a toothbrush (which I only use on my hair) and a hairspray to comb them up along my forehead. Finally, to create the perfect look of 5-year-old bouncy curls, I used a skinny curling iron to curl up small sections of my hair at a time. I like the Barrel 1 "T3 Defined Curls clip ($ 85, sephora.com) Finally, it's not a fad to beautify yourself with the hair curls. The ones I wear are Braid Tassel Braid + Isabel charms ($ 38, chloeandisabel.com).
When it comes to makeup, North is still a little young for full makeup, so I also kept it natural. In addition, anyway, it is necessary to focus on the glossy eyeliner. Speaking of which, to create a shiny wing, I used the orange color of the Wild Wet Painters Makers Painters palette ($ 6; wetnwildbeauty.com) and an angled paintbrush.
It's certainly the first time I've been taking style advice from a kid, but you have to believe that I will now be watching the Northwest for fashion and beauty. I'm not sure what the 5-year-old girl wants when she'll be tall, but I would not be in the least surprised if she joined one of the family's beauty shops – after everything, she is spoiled for choice.
