Notebook: Herman from UT solicits Beaty's comments

Former Kansas football coach David Beaty has not traded his purple and blue gear against burnt orange.

But, according to Texas head coach Tom Herman, Beaty, who spent his last days with the Jayhawks preparing to try to defeat the Longhorns, will play at least a small role to help them.

At Monday's Big 12 Championship teleconference, Herman was asked about a report by Orangebloods.com that Beaty would be consulting with the UT coach as he and his team were preparing for the conference championship match of Longhorns with Oklahoma.

"Whenever you have the opportunity to know something of what an opponent saw from you when it broke down, you want to see it," Herman said. "It's pretty standard, I do not know why it's such a big problem."

Entered by the Journal-World, Beaty declined to comment on the announced arrangement.

Herman and Beaty worked closely as assistant coaches at Rice in 2007. Herman was the offensive coordinator and quarterback coach, while Beaty oversaw receivers and co-ordinated the pass game.

At his Monday press conference, Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley was asked about Herman's request to Beaty.

"Coach Beaty can do what he wants, I do not like the previous one: being able to bring in a player from the league that same year, I do not think it's good for the conference." is not against the rules, and if they want to do it, that's fine, "Riley said.

Would Riley have someone who would help OR?

"No comment," Riley answered with a smile.

The most accurate kicker of Rui KU

Senior for the KU in 2018, kicker Gabriel Rui leaves the program as the all-time leader in terms of goal percentage, after scoring 78.4% of his attempts (29 out of 37) over the last two seasons.

Rui, who has left Northeastern Oklahoma A & M;, for Kansas, also tied the program record for PAT's percentage, achieving 100% of his tries in 2017 and 2018.

Hui, Oklahoma, Rui scored a career-high 54 yards at the start of the season against Nicholls State. This places him tied for the seventh time ever in the KU record book for the longest field placement.

Dineen semi-finalist

Redshirt KU linebacker Joe Dineen has been named semi-finalist for the Lott IMPACT Trophy.

Kentucky linebacker Josh Allen, Boston College defensive lineman Zach Allen, Washington linebacker Ben Burr-Kirven, linebacker Utah Chase Hansen, linebacker Duke Ben Humphreys, linebacker Jordan of Washington, linebacker Jordan Bash-Kirven of Utah, as well as linebacker Jordan Wilas.

Voting for the winner and the finalists will take place in November and the 15th Annual Awards Banquet will be held on December 9th.
