Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book will miss Saturday’s game against Florida State because of a rib injury, according to multiple reports.

Coach Brian Kelly is expected to provide an update during his Thursday afternoon news conference.

Irish Illustrated and The Athletic both reported that Book suffered the injury during last week’s 31-21 win at Northwestern.

Book replaced Brandon Wimbush as the starter in Week 4 at Wake Forest, and Notre Dame’s offense has flourished. He has completed 74.5 percent of his passes for 1,824 yards with 15 touchdowns and four interceptions.

Wimbush has completed 55.3 percent for 589 yards with one touchdown and four interceptions in four games (three starts). He also has rushed for 144 yards and one touchdown. Wimbush started 12 of Notre Dame’s 13 games last season.

Kelly addressed Wimbush’s role during his Tuesday news conference.

“He’s been great,” Kelly said. “He’s handled himself great. He’s been a great teammate to Ian Book, quite frankly. He’s been as supportive as any player on our team that I’ve ever coached. He’s been there for him in the locker room at halftime. The first one that sits down with him and talks him through what’s going on, what we need to do, is Brandon Wimbush.

“He’s got to stay ready. Who knows what happens, right? Every week we remind him. He knows that he’s one step away from going back out on the field. He’s practiced really well. That’s the biggest thing, more than anything else, is it’s easy to lose your edge when you’re not starting. He’s fought that. So he’s just been a great teammate and he’s kept himself prepared.”
