Notre Dame takes the road Saturday night with one of the most impressive CVs of college football at this point of the season. After opening the campaign with a 24-17 win over Michigan, No. 14 at the time (it is now ranked No. 15), the Irish have added a top-10 win to their list of achievements beating the No. 7 Stanford 38-17 last weekend. These victories are enough to give the Irish first place in our ranking, and the Irish could now win a third victory against a ranked team they managed to beat Virginia Tech Saturday night.
They face a Hokies team that is a bit of an enigma at this point. Virginia Tech, number 24, started the season with a 24-3 win against Florida State, which looked impressive at the time. The Seminoles were ranked No. 19 in the preparatory polls, but since that defeat against the Hokies, we have seen difficulties. The Hokies have also had ups and downs. Old Dominion suffered a 49-35 loss to starting quarterback Josh Jackson, but bounced back with an impressive 31-14 road victory over Duke.
