The Republican party in Indiana withdrew National Rifle Association (NRA) president Oliver North from a rally Sunday in a city hit by a school shooting last May.
"Oliver North will not be going to Noblesville today because it would simply have been in the wrong place and at the wrong time," said Indiana Republican Party chairman Kyle Hupfer at The Hill .
A student reportedly shot a classmate and teacher last May at Noblesville West Middle School, miles away from the rally site.
When asked to comment, a spokeswoman for ANR told The Hill: "If you want to know why the IN GOP has issued an invitation, you have to ask it at the same time. IN GOP. "
The rally will continue without North and will feature Senate candidate Mike Braun (right), Gov. Eric Holcomb and other GOP candidates.
The Mayor of Noblesville, John Ditslear (R), agreed with Hupfer, stating to Indiana Star that the community was not healed enough to have a "favorable speech to the 39, firearm ".
Ditslear said that he supported the second amendment and that he was not aware of North's visit in advance.
The Republicans of Indiana had initially stated that North's appearance had been canceled due to a scheduling conflict, before Hupfer issued his statement to the newspaper, according to the Star newspaper.
Previously, the parents of the Noblesville Stands Together group had pushed back the north aspect, saying it would be "bad taste".
"Honestly, it was insensitive and hurtful," said Nathan Lambert newspaper, whose child was at the Noblesville West Middle School School.
"I am a Republican and I would like to know why my State Party thought it was a good idea."
