NRCC, DCCC leaders call for unity after firing a synagogue

Presidents of Republican and Democratic congressional campaign committees called for political unity Sunday as a result of the deadly shootings on a Pittsburgh synagogue.

"We all have some responsibility," National Republican Congress committee chairman Steve Stivers told NBC's "Meet the Press." "We must put our affairs in order and try to bring more civility to our Congress and, frankly, to our dialogue."

The Sabbath that was slaughtered Saturday at the Tree of Life synagogue killed 11 people and injured others, making it the deadliest attack on the synagogue in US history.

After the tragedy, lawmakers have the responsibility to "keep our civil dialogue," Stivers said.

"Look, another insane act of hate has struck another community and place of worship in the United States of America," said Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico , also on NBC. "Congress has the responsibility to act to ensure the safety of people."

The two men also stressed that President Donald Trump had been instrumental in establishing solidarity.

He also announced his intention to travel to Pittsburgh, but did not provide details.
