The cleanup is underway after a pair of tornadoes hit Tuesday two cities in New England.
Sandwich, Massachusetts and Lincoln, Rhode Island, were ravaged by tornadoes that caused heavy showers and falling trees.
The National Weather Service confirmed that the Rhode Island tornado had landed at 3:34 pm. and the Massachusetts phenomenon at about 18 hours. NWS officials must determine the strength, size and duration of Lincoln's tornado on Wednesday.
Until now, they say that the tornado in Lincoln is consistent with the damage to the EF-1. The team has not yet seen the damage caused by the Sandwich storm.
The same wind that caused the Lincoln tornado created powerful gusts at Norton, Massachusetts. The fallen trees have blocked the pathways and the damage has been so severe that NWS officials have the intention to investigate if a tornado also falls on the city.
Neighboring towns spilled trees that left debris scattered in the streets and many reports of power lines dropped to the ground. Roofs torn from houses and broken windows could be seen.
A tornado warning was in effect for about an hour in parts of Norfolk, Bristol, and Plymouth Counties in Massachusetts, as well as in part of Providence County, Rhode Island on Tuesday afternoon.
"Suddenly, my phone was alerted," said Tara Carcieri, who was with her 5-year-old daughter during the tornado. "He said that there was a tornado in our area and that was saying it now, so I jumped off the chair, I grabbed it."
Carcieri grabbed her young child and rushed downstairs.
"As I walked to the basement, all I heard was crush," said Carcieri. "By breaking the windows, I did not know what was happening, I was so nervous."
Broken windows left dangerous debris around his house, including in the same room where Carcieri and his daughter were.
Firefighters went door to door to assess the damage and make sure everyone was taken care of.
By nightfall, the teams were scattered around the neighborhood, cutting down trees that had destroyed power lines and trying to restore power to about 400 National Grid customers.
No injuries related to Tuesday's storms were immediately reported.
