Sunday's loss to the Vikings made it quite clear that the Jets need more depth at wide receiver. And on Tuesday they got some help, signing up Titans receiver Rishard Matthews at source confirmed. ESPN first reported the signing.

Matthews was Tennessee's leading wide receiver in each of the last two seasons. But he saw his playing time in the first three games. Unhappy with his role, Matthews requested and was granted his release from the Titans in late September.

Now, it's going to be a chance to make an impact on the Jets' offense starting this weekend against the Bears and their talented defense. Matthews will become the No. 3 receiver behind Robby Anderson and Jermaine Kearse, at least until Quincy Enunwa returns.

Enunwa is dealing with a high ankle that will keep you going until the Jets' Week 11 bye. In the meantime, Matthews gives the Jets some depth and experience at a cheap price. And if he returns to the form of the last few years, he could be a weapon for the Jets' offense and rookie quarterback Sam Darnold – who needs all the weapons he can get.

It was obvious on Sunday that the Jets other receivers – Andre Roberts, Charone Peake and Burnett Deontay – were not able to give a helping hand.

Matthews, a seven-year veteran, should help. The 29-year-old is coming out of his most productive seasons, highlighted by 2016 when he had 65 catches for 945 yards and nine touchdowns.

In 2016, Adams had 225 catches for 3,136 yards and 21 touchdowns, before joining the Titans in 2016.
