NEW YORK (WABC) –

An explosion in the Arctic will hit New York City and the Three States during Thanksgiving, with temperatures plunging into the 1920s and cold single-digit winds.

On Wednesday the wind will be more and more windy, the sun mixing with some clouds and a gust late in the afternoon as a cold front rises in the area.

The tops will reach the lowest 40 degrees before collapsing like a rock in the evening, when the colder air comes in the area. Temperatures will drop in the 20s in the city and teenagers north and west.

Thanksgiving day seems to be very cold and windy despite the sun. Peaks will not even reach the freezing point, likely not exceeding 25 years, and the wind could sometimes give the impression that the numbers are single digits.

In fact, if the forecast is maintained, it could be one of the five coldest Thanksgivings in New York history.

According to the National Weather Service, the coldest day of Turkey recorded in New York was November 28, 1901, when the temperature reached 26 degrees. Only three Thanksgiving had high temperatures below freezing.

Winds will blow from the north-west between 20 and 30 km / h, with gusts of up to 10 km / h, which could affect the balloons of the Macy Thanksgiving parade.

The New York City Emergency Management Department and the Department of Health urge individuals to prepare for the extremely cold temperatures during the parade. Cold weather can cause or aggravate health problems. Some people have an increased risk of injury, illness or death, such as those who drink heavily or use drugs and become unable to get outdoors.

Parade spectators, including older adults and infants, are encouraged to dress warmly. Wear hats, scarves, gloves and bunk clothing. Keep the fingertips, earlobes and nose covered. Prolonged exposure to cold can cause freezing and hypothermia.

Spectators can send a text message to THXGIVING18 at 692692 to receive important alerts and notifications about the parade and cold weather.

The cold weather will continue until Friday for all buyers, while the peaks "go back" only in the thirties.
It will be a little sweeter during the weekend, but a little rain is possible.
