NYPD: The owner of the bodega attacks a man during an attempted robbery in the Bronx

SOUNDVIEW, Bronx – A Bronx bodega owner shot dead a man who stole his store, the NYPD said.

The owner of J Market, located on Morrison Avenue and East 172 Street in Soundview, was approached by a man who was asking for money around 10:30 pm Sunday, according to officials.

A fight ensued when the alleged thief jumped over the counter after the owner refused to give him the money. The owner then shot the man in the head, police said.

Police were called to the scene and found the man unconscious, shot in the head. We did not know right away who called 911.

The 32-year-old man, identified as Daniel Meeks, was taken to the hospital where he died later. No weapons were found in the alleged thief, the police said.

The owner of the 43-year-old bodega was taken to 43rd constituency for questioning.
