The OHare International Airport ranks at the bottom of the list of the country's largest airports, with 17 out of 19, according to a study released Wednesday.
The 2018 survey of North American airport satisfaction conducted by J.D. Power, a marketing information services company, found that overall airport satisfaction was at record levels.
Although O'Hare was weak in the survey, he gained a little more points for customer satisfaction in 2018 than in 2017. He scored 735 points, compared to 723, but still below the average. segment of 758.
O'Hare has been categorized as "mega" airports, defined as those that handle more than 32.5 million passengers a year, while the "big" category includes airports with 10 to 32.4 million passengers . The study, now in its thirteenth year, measures traveler satisfaction by examining six factors, in order of importance: terminal facilities; accessibility of the airport; security check; baggage claim; Check / Check Baggage and food, beverages and retail. It is based on responses from 40,183 North American travelers.
The Las Vegas McCarran International Airport and Orlando International Airport (Fla.) Rank at the top of the list of the most important airports, followed by the Detroit Metropolitan Wayne Airport County and Denver International Airport. The John Wayne Airport, located in Orange County, California, is at the forefront of major airports.
Earlier this week, O'Hare was named the country's most connected airport in 2018 and an international information center just after Heathrow, according to a report released by OAG, an airline travel intelligence firm. The report is based on O'Hare's ranking of the number of possible connections to peak hours.
A representative of the City's Aviation Department was not immediately available to comment on J.D. Power's report. The city plans an $ 8 billion O'Hare expansion over eight years to help it better compete with other major national and international airports.
