Oath will soon be renamed Verizon Media Group

Last year, we roasted Verizon when it merged its purchases of AOL and Yahoo into a new group called Oath. Guru Gowrappan, CEO of the company, announced today that Oath was no more; Verizon's collective media will be called Verizon Media Group starting in 2019.

This evolution is accompanied by other organizational changes primarily involving the segmentation of Verizon's respective businesses, including new consumer and business-oriented groups. The media of Oath, including HuffPost, TechCrunch, Engadgetand Tumblr continue under the new, less strange name of the parent company.

So while Oath remains in place until the end of this year, her name will no longer be. We will miss it almost as much as Trunk. Goodbye, oath.
