OCALA, Florida – A man suspected of shooting a woman at a Walmart store in North Florida on Saturday afternoon was hospitalized due to a self-inflicted bullet wound and was not expected to survive his injuries, a announced the police. In a Facebook post on Saturday night, Ocala police identified the suspect as 54-year-old David Johnson and 30-year-old victim Carli Cronin.

The shooting took place during a possible marital dispute in the garden portion of a Walmart store in Ocala, north of Orlando, along Interstate 75. Johnson fired several times on Cronin. .

Johnson escaped on a bicycle and then committed suicide, police said. Scotty Ballard told Ocala Star-Banner that he was Cronin's roommate and that they had gone to Walmart to buy furniture for their apartment.

Ballard said that Cronin and Johnson had been together for about nine months, but that they were currently separated and they were arguing all day long. Johnson wanted to get back together, but she did not, Ballard said.

Client Colleen Wade told the newspaper that she had heard a thud and had run down an alley in the garden where she had seen a man standing over a woman shooting. He calmly left the store and went away, said Wade.

Cronin was taken to the hospital where she died. Police said no one else was hurt.
