Lucasfilm's immersive R & D unit, ILMxLab, is preparing to adopt Facebook's new Oculus Quest VR headset: "Vader Immortal," a new three-part VR series, will be launched when Oculus Quest marketed next year Vicki Beck Dobbs announced Wednesday at Facebook's Oculus Connect developers conference in San Diego, California.
"Our mission at ILMxLAB is to have fans inside our stories, and 'Vader Immortal: a Star Wars VR series' represents a significant advance in this ongoing quest," said Beck. "Our Oculus friends share ILMxLAB's ambition to bring captivating immersive stories to life and use Oculus material, so we'll be inviting fans to discover Darth Vader like never before.
"Our three-part series was designed from the ground up to be immersive first," said Star Wars writer and producer David Star: The Secrets of the Empire. Goyer, who joined Beck on stage at the event.
ILMxLab has launched a trailer of the episode of the series and Goyer said that it would allow players to enter the Darth Vader Palace and take part in the action themselves.
Facebook has officially announced Oculus Quest as a new autonomous VR headset at Oculus Connect on Wednesday. The $ 399 headset is scheduled for early 2019, and consumers are expected to have access to more than 50 games and applications at launch.
