According to the Delaware Department of Transportation, both spans were shut down due to a "gas leak" around 5 pm, at the height of the rush that followed post-Thanksgiving. According to the Delaware Memorial Bridge's Twitter account, the leak would come from a "production plant" located at the foot of the bridge in New Jersey. Factory officials have asked for closure.
