Pam Henry, the first female journalist in Oklahoma City, has passed away.
On Tuesday, Henry underwent an emergency bowel operation and died of complications.
KFOR hired Henry in 1972. At the time, there were no women on local television.
Friends told KFOR that her family was with her when she died.
"Our dear friends, Pam, died early this morning. To say that his death leaves a great void in all our lives is a euphemism. However, our lives were truly enriched by having known it. His family will make plans for a memorial, and when these details are finalized, I will post them here. For all those who have prayed, written and shared your concern and love for Pam, I know his family and friends are grateful to him, "said Henry's close friend. Don Sherry in a Facebook post.
Henry was also the child of the poster for the March of Dimes polio campaign.
When she was small, she contracted polio before the vaccine was available. Henry decided to become a journalist while she was interviewed for her work with the March of Dimes.
