Herbert started playing the guitar at the age of 14
Oli Herbert, the guitarist of the American group All That Remains, died suddenly at the age of 44.
The news of Herbert's death was announced on social media on the American group's Instagram account.
In the post, the group, best known for his songs such as Two Weeks and Si I was nothing, said to have been "devastated" by the loss of one of its founding members.
The cause of Herbert 's death is not yet known.
"Oli was an incredibly talented guitarist and composer who defined rock and metal from the northeast [of America], "continues the statement.
"Its impact on gender and our lives will continue indefinitely."
The Massachusetts quintet formed in 1998 and released his first album, Behind Silence and Solitude, in 2002.
Herbert has appeared on each of their nine studio albums, including Victim of the New Disease, to be released in November.
Herbert's wife, Beth, who has been married to the guitarist for 14 years, posted a message on Facebook explaining that the circumstances surrounding Herbert's death were unclear.
"Thank you all for your kind thoughts and your words, I do not want to talk about what happened before having a complete picture," she wrote.
Among the musicians who have paid tribute to the guitarist include Michael Amott, of Arch Enemy, who said he was "shocked" to learn of Herbert 's death.
Cristina Scabbia, from the Italian metal group Lacuna Coil, also expressed her sadness following her death.
Lou Brutus, host of an American rock show, said Herbert was an "extraordinary musician" and a "phenomenal guy".
The group is expected to travel to the UK in December to perform six times as part of a European tour.
