According to People magazine, Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte is seeking treatment for alcohol dependence.
Jeff Ostrow, Lochte's agent, said: "Ryan is getting the help he needs."
"Ryan has been fighting alcoholism for many years," Ostrow told the magazine. "And unfortunately, this has become a destructive model for him."
Police were called to an incident Thursday morning in the Lochte, California hotel room. According to the website, Lochte allegedly attempted to flip the door of his hotel room while he was intoxicated. Newport Beach police confirmed that they responded to the hotel, but no arrests were made.
Lochte has won more than a dozen Olympic medals in swimming, including six gold medals.
In July, Lochte was suspended from swimming in competition after posting a photo of him receiving an illegal intravenous drip.
