A superintendent from the Texas School District is under fire after making a derogatory comment about NFL quarterbacks who are black on Facebook.
Lynn Redden, superintendent of the independent school district of Onalaska, expressed her regret about posting on the social media site "we can not rely on a black quarterback".
the Houston Chronicle posted an article on Facebook Monday regarding the Houston Texans' loss over the weekend. Redden, who supervises about 1,000 students in the district about 90 miles north of Houston, commented on the job.
"It may have been the most unexpected quarterback decision I've seen in the NFL," he said. "When you need to make precision decisions, you can not rely on a black quarterback."
Redden says the Chronicle that he intended to send the comment in a private message to a friend and delete the message when he realized that it was public. He added that he would have liked never to have been posted and said "I totally regret it".
Texan quarterback Deshaun Watson was severely criticized for his loss after being unable to make a pass fast enough in the last 16 seconds, losing to the Tennessee Titans 20-17. Redden said to the the Chronicle that his comment, which was in response to Watson's performance, was a reference to what he saw as a lack of success for the NFL Black Quarter.
"During the NFL's history, they've had limited success," Redden told the The Chronicle.

Although Redden removed his comment, a screen shot of it circulated online and the independent school district of Onalaska addressed the problem in a statement that was posted on Facebook. The statement expressed regret for the comment and explained that the district does not allow negative comments or actions against any race.
According to the release, the school district values each individual and that "appropriate measures" would be taken to remedy the situation "quickly and completely". Due to the legal protections afforded to all district employees, the school system in accordance with the law and therefore did not share any specific details.
"Please allow the board of directors the time necessary to perform their duties," the statement concluded.
Matt Ericksen sent the screenshot of the commentary to Houston Chronicle and explained that he did so because he wanted to expose the statement, which in his opinion was clearly racist. He added that it was important that horrible words have consequences, especially for people in important positions.
While the NFL's quarterbacks have been mostly white, all but one of the NFL teams have created a quarter that is black at least once, according to Yahoo Sports. Many black quarterbacks led their teams to win Super Bowls. However, a study conducted by the University of Colorado and published by The Washington Post found that racial prejudice still influences the way quarterbacks are perceived.
Watson did not comment publicly on this.
