Four people were injured Wednesday in a shootout in Wisconsin, according to reports.

Emergency responders descended on a commercial building in Middleton, just outside Madison, home to Esker Software and WTS Paradigm, around 10:30 am after the incident.

"It seems like the situation is stable now," said Mike Davis, Middleton City Administrator, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. "The bad news is that four people were injured by the suspect."

Davis said the suspect in the shootings was seriously injured and taken to a hospital in the area, as well as the four victims.

The Middleton Police Department issued an alert shortly after reports advising people in the area's buildings to stay inside and lock the doors.

A woman rescued from a building in the area was shouting, saying it was "a devastating loss," according to Wisconsin State Journal reporter Dean Mosiman.

Andrew King, an employee of a building in the area, said he saw a man with a handgun enter another building.

"I saw a guy walking with a gun in the building," King said, according to the newspaper.

"He was just walking with, and I did not see any shots."

Members of the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also responded to the scene.

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker says in a tweet"We are following this situation closely. Our thanks go to the first responders at the scene.

Middleton Mayor Gurdip Brar told the State Journal: "I am wholeheartedly with the families of those who have been injured … The city will do everything in its power to help them in this situation.
