OPEC countries should lower oil prices in exchange for US protection

PResident Trump said Thursday that Middle Eastern countries should help lower oil prices for the United States, because the United States is helping to protect nations in this region of the world.

"We are protecting the countries of the Middle East, they would not be safe for long without us, and yet they continue to push for ever higher oil prices! We will remember, "tweeted Trump Thursday morning. "The monopoly of OPEC must bring down prices now!"

The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries is an intergovernmental organization that brings together the 15 largest oil-producing nations in the world. In June, the OPEC countries agreed to reduce their plans to cut oil production, a move to reduce price increases.

But US oil stocks have fallen to levels not seen in recent years. Crude oil prices have risen steadily over the last 12 months, from about 50 dollars a barrel to over 70 dollars.
