The senior technical officials resigned Friday, less than a month after the announcement of his leave.
Thomas Kurian, as president of product development at Oracle, led efforts to develop the company's cloud computing business. But the tech company revealed in a securities deposit Friday that he had decided to resign immediately and that his responsibilities had been transferred to other senior executives.
Oracle gave no reason for Kurian's resignation and a spokesman for the company declined to comment further.
Mr. Kurian started working for Oracle in 1996 and has held a variety of product-based positions, according to a biography posted on the Oracle website. In his last job, he helped Oracle develop its cloud computing business, where the company is trying to gain ground against
Amazon.com
Inc.
Microsoft
Corp.
and other companies, reporting to Larry Ellison, president and chief technology officer of Oracle.
In early September, Mr. Kurian announced that he would take an extended leave at Oracle. In an e-mail to the staff, he wrote: "I am very proud of all that we have accomplished together and I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to help you in this adventure. I will never forget you and I wish everyone of you the best for the future.
During Oracle's quarterly teleconference with analysts on September 17, Oracle co-CEO Mark Hurd said, "Mr. Kurian is a good man, a very hard worker. He takes a break and we are waiting for his return.
Shares of the Redwood City, Calif.-based company slid Friday at close of $ 51.56 and posted a 0.3% decline in aftermarket transactions.
