Buck Showalter is out in Baltimore.
The Athletic first reported Wednesday that the Baltimore Orioles are parting ways with Showalter after a disastrous 2018 season, marking the end of its nine-year tenure with the franchise.
Just two years after reaching the postseason, the Orioles bumbled to a 47-115 record in 2018 – the club's worst record since it arrived in Baltimore in 1954.
Showalter becomes the sixth manager to be joined of duty since April, joining Jeff Bannister (Texas Rangers), John Gibbons (Toronto Blue Jays), Mike Matheny (St. Louis Cardinals), Paul Molitor (Minnesota Twins), Bryan Price (Cincinnati Reds) and Mike Scioscia (Los Angeles Angels).
Molitor was fired by the Twins on Tuesday.
The 62-year-old Showalter, who also previously managed the Rangers, Arizona Diamondbacks and New York Yankees, is a three-time recipient of the American League manager of the year award. He won the award during his time with the Orioles, in 2014.
