The Orlando International Airport has landed at the bottom of the ranking of the best airports in 2018 by the online travel consultant The points guy.
The ranking includes the 30 busiest airports in the country. Orlando is in 24th place for the second time in a row and not far from major New York airports.
"From 1 to 30, the scores do not vary greatly," said Julian Kheel, chief editor of The Points Guy, founded in 2010 and who provides travel tips and reviews. "So Orlando should not feel like they have the worst airport in the world, they just are not as good as some of the other airports in our study."
The J.D. Power 2018 Orlando International Airport Ranking in North America is very different from the McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas as the best "mega airport" in the country.
Kheel stated that the Guy Points rankings are established differently from customer satisfaction surveys.
"We rely on objective numbers, real data that we collect from government statistics to third-party databases," he said. "The numbers, not the opinion."
The ranking by points was derived from three categories: amenities, such as restaurants or lounges; accessibility by car, taxi or public transit; and results in time for travelers.
Orlando is ranked 15th for access, 20th for punctuality and 28th for amenities.
Kheel said airports such as Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Philadelphia and Honolulu were home to fewer passengers but more than twice the number of Orlando International lounges.
Orlando's 24th place finish is the same in 2016, which was the first year for The Point's Guy.
Kheel said that the Orlando International Airport had shown an improvement in speed and accessibility, but had plunged into the category of amenities due to the increase in the number of passengers .
"This report is not intended to put airports at the bottom of the list, although some people may think that New York's airports might require a lot of work," Kheel said. "But Orlando is not that kind of airport. It just suffers from the fact that it is a popular airport and that it is busy. "
Dulles International ranks first for amenities, San Diego International for accessibility and Salt Lake City International for punctuality.
The world's most ranked airport is Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
In Florida, Miami ranks 12th and Fort Lauderdale 26th.
