The Orlando Magic unveiled their new City Edition jerseys, softening the space theme of last year, while keeping things pretty much the same.

The NBA has slowly started rolling out the new "City Edition" jerseys and the Orlando Magic have announced their new jerseys. These will replace the space uniforms of the Magic of last year. Each team in the league is awarded a new City Edition jersey.

The new jerseys look a lot like the jerseys of last year. It is black with the Magic's secondary logo prominently on the chest. The design of the starry sky has however been removed from the main design of the jersey.

The unveiling video does not really give a clear look at the jerseys.

Unlike last year, the theme of space does not cover the entire uniform. This year, they relegated the design of the stars alongside the jersey and shorts. The spatial theme of last year continues, but it is much less pronounced than last year.

The Magic explains the meaning behind the jerseys this way, according to a press release:

The Magic's City Edition uniform celebrates Orlando as a city of dreamers. The uniform retains the iconic symbol of magic over the years and presents a shimmering cosmic appearance. Symbol of reaching the limits, the City Edition moves away from the tradition of the team to give a unique name to Magic.

The team will debut with uniforms on Nov. 14 against the Philadelphia 76ers at the Amway Center. The team announced it would be the team's fifth and final jersey this year, as well as traditional white and blue jerseys, an alternate black jersey and classic blue stripes.

Teams that participated in last year's playoffs received a special "winning edition" jersey that will debut later this year. Some teams, like the Magic, also wear Classic Edition jerseys of old models of jerseys. The next Magic will bring those against the Detroit Pistons next week.

No one will blame Nike and the team for trying to connect the space industry. Last year, the City Edition jerseys received mixed reviews. Some people liked the originality of the drawing – and it seemed better in person than on paper. Others were not fan of the idea. But it was definitely a bold and adventurous design for the team. It was something different at the very least.

This one is certainly a little more muted. But it will probably not do much to inspire a ton of Magic fans to put him in the pantheon of Magic's uniforms. Especially when the team wears blue beloved blue-striped uniforms as part of the team's 30th anniversary season.
