Injuries sustained during an alleged domestic violence incident forced Rachael Ostovich to withdraw from his next fight, announced today his management company.
In addition, Ostovich applied for a temporary restraining order to her husband, Arnold Berdon, a 27-year-old MMA fighter (7-2), reported for the first time by TMZ.com.
Ostovich (4-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC) is expected to face Paige VanZant (7-4 MMA, 4-3 UFC) during a half-white weight fight at UFC on ESPN + 1 on Jan. 19 at Barclays Brooklyn Center, NY But according to an article on the Facebook page of its management company, Suckerpunch Entertainment, Ostovich is out of action.
Ostovich broke an orbital bone and sustained further injuries, according to Suckerpunch's post. The post did not give details of the incident that had caused the injuries, but rather indicated that Ostovich and his family were asking for "a little privacy when settling this case".
TMZ.com first reported Sunday an alleged incident between Ostovich and "one of his relatives". Police have not yet officially designated Berdon as a suspect in the alleged incident.
"A very unfortunate incident occurred on Sunday night with Rachael Ostovich, which ended with a fractured orbit and other injuries," Suckerpunch Entertainment told Facebook. "Because of these injuries, she will not be able to participate in her next fight with Paige VanZant on January 19th. Rachael is now at home after leaving the hospital with her family and she will be going back for further tests on her orbital. The family would like to ask for some privacy when settling this matter. We would like to thank the UFC for all its support on this issue, as well as the fans and the media for your concern. "
Ostovich, 27, was part of the cast of "The Ultimate Fighter 26", who retired in the quarter-finals after losing a unanimous decision against Barb Honchak. The Hawaiian was brought back to the live final of the season, where she submitted Karine Gevorgyan in the first round.
Ostovich competed for the last time in July after being defeated by Montana De La Rosa in the Ultimate Fighter 27 final.
Berdon, a Hawaiian leanweight, has three fights under the banner of Victory FC. More recently, he won a decision against Jeremias Fernandez at the Titan FC 50 in June.
