Owner of the Nevada brothel who died will remain on the vote

A Nevada brothel owner nominating to the state legislature will remain on the ballot after his death Tuesday, the Associated Press reported.

Dennis Hof, one of the most well-known legal brothel owners in the state, was found dead Tuesday as a result of a holiday weekend for his 72nd birthday. The AP reported that it was too late to change the ballots because they were printed and mailed less than three weeks before polling day.

Hof presents himself in a legislative district held comfortably by the Republicans and should therefore be elected posthumously. The AP reported that if this is the result, county officials will appoint another Republican to occupy the seat.

Hof's death does not presume any criminal act, although it may be several weeks before an official cause is determined.

Hof, the former star of "Cathouse" of HBO, was the owner of seven brothels in the state of Nevada, where they are legally allowed to operate. He won his party's primary earlier this year, beating incumbent James Oscarson (R) at the GOP's June primary. He had to face Democrat Lesia Romanov for the post in November.

The businessman had previously lost a candidacy of the Libertarian Party in 2016 for the seat against Oscarson.
