The Gaza Health Ministry said that one Palestinian was killed and 10 others wounded by Israeli gunfire during a rally near the fence.
Thousands of Palestinian protesters gathered Monday on a beach in northern Gaza near the border, burning tires and throwing stones at Israeli soldiers, who responded with tear gas and deafening fire. Fishing boats waving Palestinian flags were circled nearby.
Hamas has staged regular protests since March, in part to lift a 10-year-old Israeli and Egyptian blockade imposed when the Islamist group seized power in 2007.
Israeli gunfire has killed 136 Palestinians at demonstrations since March. A Palestinian sniper killed an Israeli soldier last month.
