PANAMA CITY, Florida (WJHG / WECP) – Thanksgiving is a gathering moment with loved ones around a good meal. The volunteers of the Panama City Rescue Mission ensured that people in need lived on the same Thursday.

The mission organized a community meal at Bethel Village, off 11th Street East, Panama.

Guests were treated to traditional Thanksgiving dishes such as turkey, ham, mashed potatoes and sweet potato casserole.

The volunteers served more than 200 people.

Joshua Ingalls, a volunteer from central Florida, said, "It's something everyone should do, help each other, whoever you are, even if you do not know the person."

The mission suffered its own damage after Hurricane Michael.

"It's been a difficult time for the city of Panama since the hurricane, so we really want to spread the love and serve, and we have to be thankful for what we have," said Shawnte Williams, head of development for rescue mission of the city of Panama.

We are told that the organization is reduced to two buildings after having five. The other three were damaged during the storm. The mission is launching a $ 500,000 campaign to rebuild and replace damaged facilities.

"We need more donations than ever now.We serve more individuals, more disadvantaged families," Williams said.

The Panama City Rescue Mission provides homeless services and addiction treatment support to those in need.
