It happened last week … The brutal assassination of James "Whitey" Bulger. The former Boston crime boss was attacked in a federal prison in West Virginia just hours after his transfer from a Florida jail.

Bulger was a notoriously ruthless killer of all those who bothered him. His place in the popular imagination was cemented by the 2015 film "Black Mass", with Johnny Depp in the role of Bulger.

Incredibly, Bulger was an FBI informant for years, apparently transmitting information about rival Mafia, based in Italy.

When his FBI official warned him late in 1994 that he was about to be charged, Bulger launched into the torch, triggering a manhunt from 16 years old who ended in 2011 with his capture in California.

Tried and convicted of multiple murders and other crimes, Bulger was sentenced to two consecutive sentences in perpetuity and five years.

Sent to Hazelton Prison, West Virginia last Monday, Bulger was reportedly beaten to death by another two prisoners in 12 hours. one of them would be a former hitman of the Massachusetts Mafia.

Bulger's lawyer blamed the murder on the government, saying: "He was sentenced to life imprisonment, but following decisions by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, this sentence was turned into a death sentence. . "

Whoever is to blame, the news of Bulger's death was good news for the families of many victims in Boston.

One of them was Michael Donahue. In 1982, he drove his neighbor (who happened to be an FBI informant) in a car that was sprayed with gunshots.

Michael's son, Tommy, told CBC's WBZ channel in Boston, "[Bulger] spent many years destroying my family and many other families, so that a guy like him does not deserve a beautiful and easy death; he deserves a slow death, and that's what I hope he's had.

Michael's widow, Patricia, told WBZ: "I'm going to buy a bottle of champagne and I'm going to blow that cap off."

"Some people think he's brought it," asked a reporter.

"He brought it in, I agree," Donahue said.

James "Whitey" Bulger was 89 years old.
