(CBS News) – Amazon has recently been criticized for a new proposal that would put its workers in cages.
A 2016 patent was recently criticized in a recent article by two AI researchers. According to Amazon, the purpose of the patent was to introduce employee safety rather than detention. The caged mobile workspace was designed to ensure the safety of people who entered the ground, where robots maneuvered and pushed awesome shelves of goods ordered by Amazon customers.
The plan, however, has not been implemented.
"Sometimes even bad ideas are patented," said Dave Clark, senior vice president of operations at Amazon. "This has never been used and we have no plans to use it."
A spokesperson for Amazon added that the speculation around the patent was "wrong", saying that "like many companies, we file a number of patent applications looking to the future" .
