Of course, it is Robert A. Heinlein who wrote: "If a grasshopper tries to fight against a lawn mower, one can admire his courage but not his judgment."
Heinlein, a science fiction writer who died in 1988, has no idea of the current state of the Buffalo Bills or the propensity of their fans to throw rubber penis on the field during NFL games.
But it would probably not have been long to identify the Bills attack as the grasshopper on Monday night.
Even though the Bills defense allowed them to stay in the third quarter on the scoreboard, there was no way to create a scenario in which the offense led by Derek Anderson was going to happen. sneak several times in the Patriotes goal zone
WHAT WE SAID BEFORE THE GAME
This is the NFL's worst offense at the moment, and their offensive coordinator, Brian Daboll, has shown his appreciation of this reality from the start, escaping from Wildcat formations and attempting flicker fleas on the first Bills training.
There was despair but you know what? We do not care? Daboll knew very well that his team, who scored 31 points in four games, is not a cruel coincidence. The Bills do not have much to do in attack. Certainly not with Anderson.
How much does it diminish the performance of the Patriots' defense in their 25-6 win? Not at all.
Defensively, the patriots did exactly what they were supposed to do. Smother the offensive of the Bills. They did it. Buffalo was 4-for-14 in the third run and had 46 rushing yards in 19 races. And 17 of these sites came on the first player of the Bills.
Five orders ended with free kicks, one ended with a striptease bag by Kyle Van Noy and the other with a six-man interception return by Devin McCourty.
OTHER HARD TRUTHS
There is no threat that the Patriots confuse what they did with the bills as a forerunner of how things are going to be with Aaron Rodgers and the Packers this Sunday. But it was a satisfying performance for a group that allowed 1,197 yards and 92 points in the previous 10 quarters.
The best defensive player on Monday night was Trey Flowers, who had six tackles, two tackles for the loss and a gap. Behind him, it was Van Noy who had two sacks and eight tackles.
The Patriots were not challenged as when Kansas City arrived in Foxboro, but, as well as Anderson, he was a better pitcher than Mitch Trubisky last week.
None of the above (and this includes Patrick Mahomes) presents anything the Patriots will see on Sunday night. Rodgers can run if he wants (and he will do it better than Trubisky). He can cast it as hard and precise as Mahomes. And he has a lot better pitch than Anderson on Monday night.
Buffalo is a bad offensive team. The final 25-6 may look better (sort of) than the 37-5 loss to the Colts last week, but it was still a futile exercise for them on offense.
This was a good weighing post for the Patriots, a defensive record, a chance for them to get correct results without the threat of immediate scoring when they were wrong.
They had to control an offense and leave it in pieces. The patriots were the lawn mower. The Biils were the grasshopper.
