The New England Patriots will be without their right guard for the Sunday night game against the Green Bay Packers.
Shaq Mason was officially ruled out Friday after missing all three training sessions this week due to a calf injury. Substitute Ted Karras should start in his stead against a Packers team with one of the NFL's top defensive duo on the defense lines, Mike Daniels and Kenny Clark.
Mason, who signed a $ 50 million five-year contract extension in August, is arguably the Patriots' best offensive lineman. Georgia Tech, 25, had started every game since the second week of the 2016 season.
Karras, a sixth-round pick in 2016, only played three games in his NFL career (one in the right guard, two in the middle), but he played well in the positions.
Brian Schwenke of the O-line Reserve was also dismissed due to a foot injury. He did not practice this week and was seen wearing a Friday walking boot.
The Patriots have qualified 13 dubious players for Sunday's game: forward receiver Julian Edelman, Josh Gordon and Cordarrelle Patterson, tight ends Rob Gronkowski and Jacob Hollister, halfback Sony Michel, offensive trent Brown and Marcus Cannon, linebackers Of which Hightower and Nicholas Grigsby, the defensive ends John Simon and Geneo Grissom and the long snapper Joe Cardona.
Patterson was added to the injury report on Friday. He has a neck injury. Hunter Ryan Allen was removed after an ankle injury earlier this week.
