Adam Vinatieri, listed as a groin injury in Wednesday's injury report, let the situation deteriorate:

The Patriots and Colts will wear their color uniforms. New England will wear navy blue sweaters and pants.

inactive

For the Patriots, receiver Julian Edelman, tight back Rob Gronkowski and receiver Josh Gordon are officially active.

Inactive New England players: Offensive linemen Cole Croston and Ted Karras, halfbacks Cyrus Jones and Eric Rowe, and defensive linemen Geneo Grisson, Derek Rivers and Keionta Davis.

Edelman comes off a four-game suspension for a positive test at the PED and an ACL tear that he suffered during the last season.

Gronkowski, who had an ankle injury, was dubious in Wednesday's injury report. He left Sunday's game against the Dolphins because of his injury.

Gordon is active for the second consecutive game after making his Patriots debut on Sunday against Miami.

For the Colts, tight half Jack Doyle, offensive lineman Denzelle Good, catcher TY Hilton, running back Marlon Mack, cornerback Kenny Moore II, defensive tackle Hassan Ridegeway and cornerback Quincy Wilson are inactive.

Pre-game news

To make room for Edelman in the line-up of 53 players, the Patriots released offensive midfielder Kenjon Barber.

The foals promoted Linebacker Skai Moore and cornerback Lenzy Pipkins in the 53-man roster also activated running back Robert Turbin.

Lines to look at

Edelman is in his first game since the Super Bowl LI, after a four-game suspension and an ACL tear. He joined the team on Monday. Edelman will be a welcome addition to a recipient body that has struggled in the first four weeks.

This will be the first time since week 12 of the 2016 season that Edelman and Gronkowski are together on the pitch.

The injury record for the Colts on Wednesday was. . . long. Among those excluded: TY Hilton catcher (chest, hamstrings), Jack Doyle (hip), cornerback Kenny Moore II (concussion), defensive tackle Hassan Ridgeway (calf), cornerback Quincy Wilson ( concussion), running back Marlon Mack (hamstring) and offensive lineman Denzelle Bon (not related to injury).

In addition to Gronkowski, the Patriots' injury report on Wednesday included seven other players, all dubious: defensive lineman Adam Butler (knee), receiver Josh Gordon (gluteal tendon), defensive lineman Geneo Grissom (ankle) , the tight fitting Jacob Hollister (chest). ), linebacker Elandon Roberts (calf), cornerback Eric Rowe (groin) and defensive tackle Danny Shelton (elbow).

Quarterback Tom Brady explained one of the reasons for his confidence in Edelman: both players are very familiar with the body language of their playing years together, but another important factor is Edelman's speed to get in and out of his breaks. As Edelman is faster than fast, he opens early in his itineraries.

"It's very comforting for a quarterback to see a guy open up very early in a course," Brady said earlier this week. "Julian – we ask him a lot. He plays a lot of different spots. I think he's able to get in and out of different places and it's kind of a specialized play. He succeeds a lot, and I hope that the transition will be smooth. We have to get ready this week – it's going to be a big week of preparation and then we'll go outside Thursday night to see where we are. "

The Patriots and Colts have not played since 2015, and the Indianapolis roster, in particular, has changed a lot since then. But, as Chris Ballard, general manager of the Colts would say, the rivalry is back. He just has new faces.

Only six Colts who played in this 2015 game – the infamous game Deflategate – are still on the list. They are quarterback Andrew Luck, tackle Anthony Castonzo, wide receiver T.Y. Hilton, Jack Doyle, Clayton Geathers and Vinatieri. The Colts also have Ballard in place, designating the roster instead of Ryan Grigson, and coach Frank Reich (not Josh McDaniels) has replaced Chuck Pagano.

The keys to the victory of the colts

1. day of play: Forget the excuses for injuries and a short week. This is the time of the game and the starters and substitutes must start and go to the end.

2. Hackamore: The defensive backs (and it's a split group) have to launch the New England receivers under pressure to keep them from running freely.

3. Ground Training: Jordan Wilkins and Nyheim Hines need to be quick at the holes to beat the yards and save time. Shorten this game will be huge.

The keys to the victory of the patriots

1. slot machine: Edelman goes out of breath after a very long layoff. Get him the ball early and put that nervous energy to work right away.

2. bad luck: Keep going after Andrew Luck. He is more mobile than you think, but he is probably a little less player after his injuries.

3. Hot play: Sony Michel must continue its momentum after a remarkable performance. If he manages to overtake the first line of defense, there should be plenty of room to move.
