Paul McCartney gave travelers more than just a ticket to go up.

The former Beatle gave a rush-hour concert on Friday night in the majestic main lobby of the Grand Central Terminal – a shock to commuters.

"It's a surprise," said 57-year-old Stephen McLaughlin, while he was waiting for a train to Westchester.

"He is an idol. He is someone with whom I grew up. I have never seen it except on TV.

Others made the trip to Grand Central when they heard about the pop-up of the 76-year-old rock legend – who was promoting his new album "Egypt Station" .

"We are Paul McCartney fans," said Mikey Bosso, who traveled from Connecticut with his brother, Mark.

"Grand Central is the theme of his new album – like a station".

Sir Paul appeared at the entrance to 42nd Street just before 5:30 pm. and waving to the worshiping crowd as they take pictures.

The location of the concert had been kept secret, but the former Beatle dropped clues when he appeared in Jimmy Fallon's "Tonight Show" on Thursday night.

"It's a surprise concert, we did not talk to anyone, but the title of the album is" Egypt Station ", so it could be a little clue out there," he suggested. "It could be a big show, I do not know."

Only about 300 fans scored tickets. But that did not stop hundreds of other people hurrying into the main hall hoping to get in – or at least hear the music in the famous terminal known for its great acoustics.

McCartney played some of his biggest solo hits, as well as Beatles and Wings classics.
