PD: Gilbert man distorts Down syndrome, hires caregivers to wash and change diapers

GILBERT, AZ – A Gilbert man was arrested for allegedly suffering from Down syndrome and hired caregivers to wash him and change his diapers.

Police said they arrested Paul Anthony Menchaca, 31, on September 6 at his home near Val Vista Drive and Williams Field Road.

Menchaca would have posed as "Amy" and hired a caregiver to bathe and change the layers of his son with Down syndrome.

The first victim later told the police that she had helped Menchaca to change diapers and take baths 30 times during the summer. These occurred at various locations in the Eastern Valley.

A second and third victim took over in July. Police said the three victims knew each other and Menchaca became sexually excited during the bath.

ABC15 is talking to some of the caregivers, who have asked to remain anonymous, who said that Menchaca had encountered apps like Carelinx and care.com

"He needed a shower and grooming, he could not use the bathroom himself, he could not really be alone, he acted like a child, his whole attitude was childlike, like a child," he said. a caregiver. "Why would you do that? Why would you make us change knowing that you did not have to do it. Why did not you give us the choice? "

At one point, the first victim became suspicious and followed Menchaca to his home, after being dropped off by another caregiver.

Caregivers helped Menchaca with diaper changes and baths

She knocked on the door and met Menchaca's parents, then discovered that he did not have Down syndrome or needed diapers.

Another caregiver hired by Care.com said that Menchaca had told him that he had suffered a traumatic brain injury.

"He repeatedly asked me to come and help him take a shower, but I was incredibly uncomfortable.I am disgusted and very uncomfortable with it. As an NAC, I am very attracted to vulnerable people who can not even go to the bathroom themselves, "said the caregiver.

The three victims faced Menchaca who confessed to lying to them.

Menchaca, who has indicated his job as a gatekeeper in the Chandler Unified School District School, has been charged with fraud and sexual abuse.

The school district said Menchaca resigned on August 31 and held various part-time jobs for about two years in support staff positions. "

District officials said they had conducted fingerprint verification and reference checks during the Menchaca recruitment process, but nothing was done.
