PEARLAND, TX – Officials in Pearland ISD said that the Pearland High School campus had tested positive for tuberculosis. District officials said Friday they were contacted by the Texas Department of State Health Services that a person previously had a prior diagnosis of TB.
Officials did not say if the person diagnosed with the airborne illness was a student or a teacher.
Some of the symptoms of TB include:
- Fever
- Chills
- Lethargy
- Night Sweats
- Coughing
- Chest Bread
- Loss of Appetite
- Unexplained weight loss
Testing for TB is conducted through a blood test and is a painless procedure.
"The well being of all students is important to Pearland ISD and we will continue to work diligently to ensure a healthy school environment," the district said in a new release.
The Brazoria County Health Department is investigating the case, will reach out to those individuals and have a relationship.
Over the last year, the Houston high school area has had reported cases of tuberculosis. All of those schools were in Fort Bend County.
