Pedro Strop is waiting to miss "at least a few weeks" after being hamstring injured as he ran towards first base in the 10th round of the Cubs' win over the championships , according to Thursday Paul Sullivan of Chicago Tribune.
Strop entered the match with a draw at the bottom of the eighth inning and the score tied, 3-3. He started a scoreless run of 2/3 to push the competition into extras.
At the top of the 10th, Chicago got a 4-3 advantage when Javier Baez scored Kris Bryant with a withdrawal. Willson Contreras then took a walk to bring Strop to the plate with the bases loaded.
Instead of hitting for Strop, the Cubs let him out, and he played in an unfinished double-game. As Strop was running on the first baseline, he was injured in the thigh.
Strop left the game after that and Randy Rosario won the game for Chicago.
Manager Joe Maddon said he did not know who would close in Strop's place, who has 13 saves in 17 opportunities this season. Strop will have an MRI on his left hamstring.
The Cubs are first at NL Central at 85-61, just 1 1/2 behind the Brewers.
