A Kmart director in McMurray, Pennsylvania, gave his moving nod last Sunday to the final closure of the store – a Sears victim filing for Chapter 11 protection against bankruptcy in the United States.

For Joshua Englert, giving the green light was his way of saying goodbye to a store where he had been working for 18 years.

To commemorate the event, Englert has filmed and shared it on Facebook.

"I wanted to take this opportunity not to sell you 40-centimeter plaid skirts or five-cent breeches, but rather to thank you for feeding me memories of a lifetime," begins with a start.

When he announces that the store closes for the last time "in five minutes", a person expresses himself in the background, expressing his sadness and encouraging him to take a closer look and to smile.

Englert's emotions prevail as he thanked the customers who had made the store "their second home" and explained to them that the people he met at the store had helped to make him the man that it was.

"We've always worked together to get through this stressful time: Inventories, Black Fridays, long queues for Tickle-Me-Elmos and Playstation 4, while we only had three. Thank you very much to the Kmart McMurray team, "he continued.

Englert told WOGI-FM 104.3 that he had become known for his store's ads.

"I realized that I realized we were going to separate and that's what moved me," he said. "These people have definitely changed me. I just wanted to make sure they knew what they meant to me.

With the announcement of bankruptcy last Monday, Sears also announced the closure of 142 unprofitable stores, in addition to the previously announced closure of 46 unprofitable stores, whose completion is scheduled for November 2018.

The superstore giant started as a mail order catalog in the 1880s before opening stores in the United States and Canada, but hundreds of stores have been closed in recent years.

More than a year ago, Sears announced that it would close all of its stores in Canada, an initiative that was finalized in early 2018.

"Again, it's 4:25, your McMurray Kmart will close at 4:30 pm," Englert said to end his speech with applause from the background.

Englert told WOGI-FM that since the publication of the video, he had received some messages about possible jobs.

Since its release, the video has been viewed more than 164,000 times.
