Pennsylvania man uses old fortune cookie numbers to win $ 1 million at New Jersey Powerball Lottery

HOPE, New Jersey (WABC) –

A man from Pennsylvania is now richer for a million dollars thanks to his love of Chinese cuisine and the New Jersey lottery.

Ronnie Martin of Long Pond used fortune cookie figures to win silver in July with a massive $ 543 million draw.

Martin drives daily from his home in New Jersey for work and he stops regularly at the same petrol station to pick up lottery tickets. He likes the numbers he found inside the cookie several years ago and decided to stay with them.

The day after he bought three tickets, Martin again stopped at the gas station to scan his tickets. When he placed one of the tickets under the scanner, this one displayed the message "See clerk".

Martin complained to the clerk, Gary, that the scanner would not show him any information. Because Martin is a regular, Gary recognized him and immediately knew that he was to be the winner of the $ 1 million prize from the night before.

"You have the ticket of a million dollars!" S exclaimed Gary.

Martin did not believe him and asked him to scan the ticket to be sure.

Gary insisted that he knew it was the million dollar bill before scanning it, showing Martin the five numbers of a line perfectly matching the drawing.

Still, Martin thought Gary was making fun of him and wanted to see the scanned note, just to be sure. When Gary scanned the bill and showed Martin the $ 1 million sign, Martin said he had finally returned and thought he was a big winner. And with a sigh of relief, he says, "All right, let's take out the form."

Martin and his wife, Shirley, will use the prize money to pay their house and their bills in advance before paying the rest of their savings.

The winning ticket was purchased from US Gas at 423 Blairstown Road in Hope, Warren County.
