The Davidson representative says "no subject is forbidden" for the comedian "Saturday Night Live".
The cast member "Saturday Night Live "Pete Davidson is facing a reaction to a joke he's made during a stand-up routine in 2017 that was referring to the Manchester Arena bombing." Twenty-two people were killed on May 22, 2017 after the explosion of a homemade bomb outside the arena following a concert by Ariana Grande. Davidson's joke says that Grande must know that she is famous "because Britney Spears did not have a terrorist attack at her concert."
Charlotte Hodgson, whose daughter Olivia Campbell-Hardy was killed in the # Attack, made a statement to The Mirror in which she ac Davidson quipped for the use of tragedy as a material for his stand-up comedy.
"For anyone joking about this situation is disgusting and I think he should publicly apologize for that," Hodgson said. "Families will find it as disgusting. We do not need jokes about it, there have been many everywhere, and it's heartrending to hear every day."
Hodgson pointed out that Davidson is now in contact with Grande. Both were engaged last month after weeks of meetings. Hodgson said that it was "outrageous" for Davidson to make jokes about the Manchester bombing while being famous for "Saturday Night Live" and Great Dating. "I think she would be so horrified," said Hodgson
. The Davidson representative reacted to the backlash by telling Metro that no joke was "forbidden" for the comedian. Davidson is well known for addressing the death of his father during the attacks of September 11 during his comedies, which some viewers also find insensitive.
"He is a comedian," said Davidson's representative. "No subject is forbidden and that includes jokes about his father and September 11th."
IndieWire reached out to the Davidson team for further comments.
