NEW YORK – The Phillies will see the Baltimore Orioles for the third time in less than two weeks as teams play a make-up game at Camden Yards on Thursday.
And you know what that means.

Only now it is not Manny Machado.

In the meantime, there is another Oriole to watch.
According to a major league source, the Phillies have an interest in getting closer to Zach Britton and talking to him about the Orioles officials.
Britton, a 30-year-old southpaw, is a two-time All-Star who has accumulated 120 saves for the 2014-2016 Orioles. He led the American League with 47 saves in 2016 and was fourth in the Cy Young vote this season. Britton has saved 15 games in 2017 but was limited to 38 games due to a forearm injury.
In the offseason, Britton suffered a rupture of the Achilles tendon. He returned to action in mid-June and awarded six points in 12 innings and 2/3 in his first 13 games. However, all these races have been played twice and Britton has recently been very effective, accumulating five innings without scoring in her last five outings. Britton only allowed two hits and a walk over the span while removing four and winning a victory and a save.
Like Machado, Britton will be a free agent in the offseason. Phillies executives are not keen to give up multiple prospects for a rental player, but Britton's price will be lower than that of Machado. Almost all teams looking for relief will have an interest in Britton, so the Orioles can afford to let its market grow. But the Phillies, who could possibly include Maikel Franco in a package, are in the race for him.
Britton, whose best pitch is a hard fast, flowing ball would be a good fit for the Phillies because he's a proven ninth and this would allow manager Gabe Kapler to use Seranthony Dominguez, an arm armed very powerful, as the second half of the season and the pennant race approach.
