The pilot of a motorized hang glider was hospitalized in critical condition after the plane crashed Saturday on Wildwood Beach, officials said.

Emergency teams found the pilot unconscious and immediately began rescue operations at the scene of the accident, near Spencer Avenue, at approximately 12:40 pm, according to the Wildwood Fire Department. .

According to officials, a medical helicopter was originally called, but could not fly due to bad weather. Wildwood rescue teams transported the man to the municipal division of the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center.

The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that she was investigating the accident. The Wildwood Police did not immediately release more details.

There was no one else on the hang glider.

Earlier this week, Keansburg police announced that a paraglider had been seriously injured in an accident on the beach in the Monmouth County community.
