A Houston-based company said that one of its pipelines had dumped more than 8,000 gallons of jet fuel into a river in Indiana.
Buckeye Pipe Line says it closed the line immediately after finding the pressure problem on Friday night, the Associated Press reported Sunday.
Local officials said they placed dams on the St Marys River, the body of water in which the fuel flowed, and sucked the oil to the surface, the PA reported.
Cleaning may take weeks, according to Decatur Mayor Kenneth L. Meyer.
According to the AP, the EPA said it was monitoring the air around the area, as well as the water quality at a few places downstream of the contamination.
