Please use rail or ferry to get home

NEW YORK –

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says that its bus terminals have become too crowded and urged commuters to use trains or ferries to get out of New York City and back to New Jersey.

“Only limited buses have been able to get to the [Port Authority Bus Terminal] due to weather conditions, leading to overcrowding. Commuters urged to seek rail/ferry alternatives,” the agency tweeted.

But those who wished to use the rails to get home were still having issues getting back to the Garden State. New Jersey Transit reported delays of 90 minutes on many of their lines.

Photos posted on social media showed very large crowds at New York Penn Station as commuters attempted to get trains back to New Jersey.

Cross-honoring is in effect systemwide, according to NJ Transit.
