HOUSTON – A Houston man was charged with abandoning children after his 6-year-old daughter strangled her one-year-old brother with a seatbelt when he left them alone in a car. .
Adrian Dreshuan Middleton was indicted Friday in the May 20 assassination in Houston. A criminal complaint indicates that the father, aged 26, told investigators that he had parked in front of a thrift store, that he had left the air conditioner turned on, given water and snacks to children and that he had been playing a movie while he was going shopping.
The surveillance video shows Middleton in the store for nearly an hour and a half. When he returned, his daughter was crying at the back. She told the investigators that she was playing with her brother but that she was angry when he did not stop crying, so she buckled the seatbelt around him. She thought that he had fallen asleep.
